CODE OF CONDUCT
This league was formed for those who desire to extend their playing years in the sport of softball, to promote friendships and to offer a form of physical exercise which has rules to reduce the risk of personal injury, so that it can be enjoyed by all.
The Mid-Columbia Senior Softball Association (MCSSA) Board has decided that to accomplish this, it has enacted the following policy towards communicating acceptable conduct that promotes sportsmanship and fair play. All Executive Board decisions are final.
As a softball athlete, I understand that I must follow these rules to stay in good standing:
-
Respect the game, play fairly, and follow the rules and regulations
-
Show respect for authority to the officials of the game, the coaches of the game, and the league representatives.
-
Demonstrate good sportsmanship before, during, and after the game
-
Help parents and fans understand the league philosophy so they can watch and enjoy the teams playing the game.
-
This code of conduct applies to extended family and friends of players that are attending a game. The player is responsible and accountable for the behavior of friends and family.
-
Be courteous to opposing teams and treat all players and coaches with respect on and off the field.
-
Support the team. Do not speak or use social media negatively towards other players, coaches, opposing teams and/or umpires. Zero tolerance for social media posts or text messages that are negative and directed towards teammates.
-
Be modest when successful and be gracious in defeat.
-
Protect the safety of yourself, your teammates, and your opponents.
-
Respect the privilege of the use of public facilities. Always help with equipment and in keeping the field/dugout/surrounding area clean.
-
Refrain from the use of bad language and from the use of drugs, alcohol, or tobacco products.
-
MCSSA defines sportsmanship as player conduct considered fitting for a sportsperson, including observance of the rules, fair play, respect for others, and graciousness in winning or losing.
The Board Officers will determine any disciplinary actions as necessary, up to, and possibly include dismissal from the league.
-
If a player does not, cannot or will not comply with the guidelines of the above stated code of conduct, consequences for violating the code of conduct will be determined by the board of directors and could lead to being asked to no longer participate in the softball association.
-
Failure to sign and return this code of conduct will result in the player being suspended from league play for the season.
